If you’ve followed my work for any amount of time, you’ve likely noticed that I always jump at the chance to photograph our closest friends and family. Capturing such fleeting seasons in life is dear to my heart, so of course there’s no question when it comes to doing just that for our people. Leah and I have been friends from childhood to adulthood to parenthood and all of the mess in between, something I try to never take for granted. Looking through these photos is the sweetest reminder of all of the years of memories we share together, both of which, I know, will be treasured for the years to come. And on a side note? These images were taken in their backyard, in all of about twenty minutes while dinner finished up on the stove. I may be biased, but let me say this – although family photographs are SO important, that does not mean they have to be complicated! The simplest moments are often the best ones, and I think these photos show just that. Zantingh family, we love you.
Ever since meeting Meagan and Blair for the first time at their engagement session, I knew that their lakeside wedding would be nothing but incredible. When September came around and we took our first walk around the property on the morning of their wedding day, it was clear to me that this, and more, would be true. Everything about Meagan and Blair’s day was exceptional – from the location, to the weather, to the live band, to the delectable food. While not a single detail went uncared for, they both worked tirelessly to also make this a weekend truly special for every one of their guests. Meag and Blair, thank you for allowing me to capture your wedding day, and for letting us experience the magic that is Bay Lake. Congratulations again, you two!
One of my absolute favourite things in my work is photographing couples and families through different seasons of life. About a year ago, Kristen contacted me to book an anniversary session for her and husband Stephen. We immediately hit it off, and I ended up working with her on a separate project for the next six or so months to come. When Kristen told me that her and Stephen were expecting, I was elated. We gushed over pregnancy and motherhood, and what a joy it would be for them to welcome a new addition to their family that summer. Fast forward to August, and there I was in their beautiful home, meeting their newborn son, Dallas. Just typing those words here leaves me in awe. God is SO good, and sweet Dallas is a testament to that. Kristen and Stephen, you two are amazing parents. Dallas is already so blessed to have you as his mom and dad.
This past summer, on a warm evening in July, I had the pleasure of photographing one of the sweetest new families of three – Dan, Aly, and Charlotte. Dan and Aly immediately made me feel welcome at their beautiful family cottage as we caught up on life as new parents, while Charlotte snoozed on and off throughout their session. Dan and Aly, thank you for allowing me to capture this precious, fleeting season for you. I know your love for Charlotte and for each other will only continue to grow stronger as time goes on.
Last July, I had the privilege of capturing a wedding that hit close to home – quite literally! Krista and Dan’s backyard ceremony and beautiful barn reception took place right down the road from our own neighbourhood. This wedding was filled with thoughtful details and traditions honouring both of their families, ranging from special treatments and games for their guests, to true Newfie rights of passage at the reception. Above all, Krista and Dan’s day was a strong reflection of who they are as a couple. In every detail and preparation, their love for the Lord as well as their families and friends stood first. Krista and Dan, congratulations on your incredible wedding day and the start of your new life together. It was one I won’t soon forget. I’ll see you around!
